Gateway FPD2485W: 24'' LCD Beauty or Beast?

Published by [NT] 0

It has been quite some time since we've done any display reviews at AnandTech. It is a topic that comes up on a regular basis, and the display is definitely an important aspect of any computer system. Quite a bit has changed since our last display review, nearly all of those changes for the better. Many of the concerns we used to have about LCDs have now been addressed - pixel response times, color purity, and pricing have in the past been the major deterrence towards purchasing a large new LCD. While there is always room for improvement, desktop LCDs are now at the point where very few people would prefer anything else.

Ergonomic Trackbar Emotion Review

Published by [NT] 0

A couple of years ago we reviewed the RollerMousePro, a docking station for your keyboard that included a "rollerbar" and set of buttons below the typing area. The rollerbar moves the cursor, requiring little or no wrist movement, while your hands stay in place near the typing area without the need to stretch for a mouse.
The Trackbar Emotion is a similar ergonomic input device. It's not intended to help you blast enemies faster or surf around in 3D. The idea, like most ergonomic devices, is to alleviate or prevent symptoms related to Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome by offering a "healthier" alternative to a regular mouse. The health benefits of an ergonomic input device are open to debate, but anything that reduces the movement of certain muscles already in pain while getting the same job done will likely gain a dedicated audience, not only because they prefer it, but because they require it..... Microsoft 30 GB Zune (Black) - Review

Published by [NT] 0

Let?s get one thing out of the way first, no the Zune isn?t as good as the latest Apple iPod. Right we?ve done with that and now we will concentrate on the stand alone Zune without comparing it to Apple?s creation. Microsoft has finally taken its own action in creating a worthy music player, for the last few years they have created the software for companies like Creative and Toshiba so they can go on to produce hardware that will hopefully take the MP3 buying public by storm, unfortunately that hasn?t happened with any of the hardware releases over the last few years, with that well know music player ruling the headphones. Seven GeForce 8800 series graphics cards compared

Published by [NT] 0

NVIDIA'S GEFORCE 8800 SERIES is a jaw-dropping marriage of performance and image quality that has raised the bar for PC graphics substantially. Not since ATI's Radeon 9700 Pro have we been so impressed by a single graphics card. The G80 GPU is simply a marvel, and if you're looking to buy a high-end graphics card today, it's the only chip you want.
Of course, your quest for the best graphics card won't end there; you also have to choose between GTS and GTX flavors of the GeForce 8800. And you're still not done, because GeForce 8800 GTS and GTX cards are available from a wide variety of manufacturers, each of which tries to bring something unique to the table, be it through bundled extras, tweaked clock speeds, or exotic cooling.
As daunting as the selection of GeForce 8800 series graphics cards may be, choice is a good thing. To help you wade through the options, we've rounded up a collection of GeForce 8800 series cards from BFG Tech, EVGA, Foxconn, MSI, OCZ, PNY, and XFX to see how they stack up. Read on to see which cards rise to the top and which get lost in the reference card shuffle.

Logitech MX Revolution Wireless Laser Mouse Reviewed

Published by [NT] 1

Well you might have guessed from the foregoing that I'm pretty stoked with the Logitech MX Revolution Wireless Laser Mouse. There is in my opinion no better all-purpose mouse around! Sure, the price is fairly hefty (about $99 and cheaper if you check around) but on the Value-for-Money scale it scores extremely high too. My only gripe is to have to choose between being able to use the middle click function or the manual override for the MicroGear...
We have decided to award the MX Revolution with the highest accolades we have on our DigitalReviews Network: the Editor's Choice Award!

ASRock AM2NF3-VSTA AMD Athlon 64 Socket AM2 Mainboard with AGP

Published by [NT] 0

No, there's no failure in the product description or headline, because the AM2NF3-VSTA
from ASRock is really an AMD Socket AM2 motherboard with AGP 8x Slot!
Surely, some will be surprised about this combination and the nForce3 250 chipset,
but it is nevertheless an interesting and an enormously inexpensive combination.
Because this motherboard is useful for those, who bought a fast AGP video card for the
previous system and would like to update the PC to a current AMD Socket AM2 processor.
For this scenario the AM2NF3-VSTA motherboard was tested on ocinside.de

XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB XXX Edition

Published by [NT] 0

Another review for your reading pleasure. Vista launched two weeks ago, and DirectX 10 came along with it?though no DirectX 10 games are available yet. Nvidia has had DX10-capable graphics cards on the market since November's release of the GeForce 8800 GTX, which was quickly followed up by the GeForce 8800 GTS. Now, while ATI still doesn't have its first DX10 card on the market, Nvidia is shipping its third?sort of.
This isn't really a new card so much as a new configuration of an existing card. The 320MB GeForce 8800 GTS is just that?a GeForce 8800GTS with 320MB instead of the usual 640MB. There are no differences in clock speeds (though some brands offer overclocked versions), no differences in the number of shader units or configuration of the GPU architecture. It's just half the memory, and this makes the card significantly less expensive. The version we'll review here today is XFX's top-of-the-line XXX edition, overclocked out of the box. It retails for $335, while the standard not-overclocked version sells for about $300. That makes this card about $150 less expensive than the 640MB version, and really, it's not significantly slower in today's games. ExtremeTech has more

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB

Published by [NT] 0

Today Guru of 3D will be looking at two brands of the all new GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB. Obviously compared to the default clocked 640 Mb model, we'll see at what resolution the memory limitation kicks in, and will also have a look what default faster clocks actually are doing in terms of performance over that 640 MB model. Therefore we took BFG's GeForce 8800 GTX 320 Mb card, the OC model and we snagged the "XXX" edition of this card from XFX and test how well they perform in games with the industry standard setting in AA and AF. This should be an interesting read .. oh and hey, we actually snagged two cards from BFG so we'll seat them in a SLI compatible mainboard and look at a little SLI action as well. It should be an interesting twenty page read, enjoy ! Guru 3d

NZXT Zero Computer Case Review @ Tweaknews.net

Published by [NT] 0

The new Zero case from NZXT has a lot to recommend it. It's a cooling monster without the growls and roars you'd expect from eight case fans. It has a sleek, classic look that doesn't appear to have been inspired by an Anime episode. The Zero will hold plenty of drives and the tool-free features are well designed and executed. The aluminum and plastic construction keep the weight down without sacrificing sturdiness.
