Just re-installed Office XP over my old Office XP installation, not thinking about my saved Outlook emails and my address book... just started up newly installed Outlook and my address book and archived emails are all gone. Anyone know how I can get them back? Or where the Outlook libraries are stored? Or does Office XP overwrite old settings and data so that my old stuff is now irretreivable?

Cheers...

.... which win ???
in winXP it should be stored

C:Documents and SettingsMertschDG

Application Data
Local Settings

you should look there .... maybe the ID changed so the folder to store information are different ....

since I do not use outlook ... i dunno exactly ... eudora is very easy in this question since you can define the folder urselfe and evry single setting is saved there

have you checked .... alluser and your userfolder ??? maybe it is just in all users and now it starts freshly in urs .... I can't image that it just overwrites the data

To transfer your email:
1. Search the backup for "*.dbx" and note the folder these files are in.
2. Open OE and click File > Import > Messages > Outlook Express 5 or 6 > Import Mail form an OE 5 or 6 Store Directory > Browse and navigate to the folder on the old drive which holds your DBX files.

Address Book
1. Search backup for *.wab. 2. In the new OE click File > Import > Address Book and point to the file you found on the old drive.

maybe this helps ?

I was looking in /application data/microsoft/* instead of /local settings/application data/microsoft/* - strange how both locations exist? Anyway have restored all back to normal, cheers for the pointers

:) I know how you feel when loosing all data ... so getting back the important data is like a release from a VERY VERY BIG STONE
