Weston 16.0.2 Release: Fixes for DRM Overlays, RDP Security, and Lua Shell

Published by

Weston 16.0.2 has been released, featuring three important bug fixes without introducing new features. The update improves the DRM backend to utilize all hardware overlay planes, enhances RDP security by preventing silent downgrades to weaker authentication, and allows the lua-shell to load external Lua modules correctly. Maintainer Marius Vlad noted that these fixes address significant issues affecting embedded and mobile systems, which rely on the compositor's stability. Users are encouraged to download the release from the Wayland GitLab page, where it is available with verified SHA sums

Weston 16.0.2 Release: Fixes for DRM Overlays, RDP Security, and Lua Shell

Weston 16.0.2 has shipped as a point release containing no new features but three targeted bug fixes for Wayland's reference compositor. The DRM backend now uses all hardware overlay planes, a change that mainly helps embedded and mobile SoCs avoid heavier GPU compositing. The RDP backend fails to start instead of silently downgrading to TLS-only authentication when the NLA credential database is missing, and the lua-shell can finally load external Lua modules into the global namespace. Maintainer Marius Vlad of Collabora announced the update, which you can download with verified SHA sums from the Wayland GitLab release page.
