DXVK-Sarek 1.14.0 Released: Revives Older GPUs for Windows Games on Linux

Published by

DXVK-Sarek 1.14.0 has been released, aiming to support older GPUs and incomplete Vulkan drivers on Linux for playing Windows games. This update introduces features that report missing Vulkan extensions, allowing games to run in a "degraded" state rather than crashing outright, and addresses long-standing memory issues that caused out-of-memory crashes during extended gaming sessions. The project is positioned as a solution for users with outdated hardware, especially as its sibling project Proton-Sarek has been discontinued, making Proton-CachyOS the only officially supported platform for running Sarek with the necessary flag. Additionally, the release includes various enhancements for Direct3D support and fixes for previously reported bugs, making it a valuable tool for gamers with legacy hardware

DXVK-Sarek 1.14.0 released today, bringing the unofficial 1.10.x DXVK fork's inclusive mission to older GPUs and half-finished Vulkan drivers on Linux. Its standout feature transparently reports which Vulkan extensions are missing and how they affect on-screen rendering, turning hard crashes into "degraded" but playable sessions. The update also swaps in upstream page and pool allocators to end the memory creep and out-of-memory crashes that plagued long gaming sessions, alongside better D3D7 support and macOS MoltenVK fixes. With the sibling Proton-Sarek project discontinued, Proton-CachyOS (using the PROTON_DXVK_SAREK=1 flag) is now the only officially supported way to run Sarek under Proton.
