Don't get me wrong here. I know that Radeon scores good with 3DMark2001. I was referring to the numerous reports of crashes and freezes when using the Radeon 8500 (at least with Athlon CPU's) see various websites for this (reviews).
Although I have to say it sounds like a lot of those problems were due to AGP Fast Writes being enabled in the BIOS, which the 8500 (and original Radeon) don't support, so it's not particularly ATi's fault.
