Mid End dogfight - ATI 9600XT Vs nVidia 5900XT

Published by Newsfactory 0

Nordic Hardware have thrown up their mid-range graphics card review! Here's a snip.

We have two cards in the Testlab today: PowerColor Radeon 9600 XT Bravo Edition and XFX GeForce FX 5900 XT. The first card is a overclocked Radeon 9600 XT and the nVidia-based 5900 XT is the challenger of today. Radeon 9600 XT is known to most of you since a long time. GeForce FX 5900 XT got, strangely, a rather silent launch. Despite that nVidia did not give it much attention the reactions have been good and is often called "the new Ti4200". For you who have lived under a stone for the last years: Ti4200 is one of the most popular cards ever, mostly thanks to its great price/performance ratio. The goal of today's article is simply to examine the best graphics card of these two.

Sunbeam RGB Liquid CCFL

Published by Newsfactory 0

OCIA.net checks out the Sunbeam RGB Liquid CCFL in their latest review! Here's a snip.

Installation was pretty quick and easy for this product. It took me around 10 minutes from start to finish. Just simply plug in the pass through molex, mount the switch, invertor, and CCFL, and enjoy. The hardest part of installing the product was finding the best place to put it. With a normal CCFL, it is ok to put it where the bulb cannot be seen. However, with the Liquid CCFL, you want to be able to see the bulb. You will need to make sure to test fit it and put your side panel back on to see if you can still see the bulb through the window.

ATI Radeon 9600XT 128Meg Videocard @ Tweaknews.net

The 9600XT certainly is the mainstream card to buy. I tested it in many games while I was working on this review, from Vietcong to Morrowind to Need For Speed: Underground and then some. With tweaked-out settings, and the highest texture settings, my testbed never slowed down once, not even in the worst sandstorm in Morrowind. I was floored by its performance and never thought that my All-In-Wonder 9700Pro looked any better. DVD movies were crystal clear, and the output to my television was as good as my AIW. Another major bonus with this card is the bundled Half-Life 2 coupon. What this means is that you take the retail price tag of $199 and subtract the game price of $50, and now you're only paying $149 for this card? and that, my friends, is how you justify such a purchase to your wife!"

Just got word from Nordic Hardware that part 2 of their SFF-barebones review is out! Here's a snip.

And once again it's time for another SFF article. The last one was well accepted by you readers and since there is a lot going on in the barebone front at the moment, much more than on the conventional mainboard front, we thought of blessing you with another SFF roundup. The competitors this time is AOen's newly released EY65 XCube, EPoX' EX5-300S Mini Me and Shuttle's two latest creations ST62K and ST61G4. The two first mentioned are based on Intel's trusted i865G chipset while the last two are based on ATi's RS300 chipset also known as Radeon 9100 IGP.

Published by Newsfactory 0

Hardware Pacers has posted a review on the Chenbro Hornet (PC-80566) Case! Here's a snip.

The case can be purchased in two different colors: Yellow or Silver. The front panel is very attractive and stylish. It has a yellow "I" and on the sides there are air holes for case ventilation. On the top there is a lid that covers a 3.5 inch drive bay and can be easily opened by flipping it upwards. On the left side of the case there is a large lid that covers a 5.25 inch drive bay that can be flipped open by pulling on the side.

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer Edition

Published by Newsfactory 1

Just got word that Gamers Depot have posted their review of Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer Edition! Here's a snip.

From the outset, it may seem as if there?s really nothing different with the ZS ? after all, it supports DVD-Audio, has a great signal-to-noise ratio and streams 5.1 audio via a digital audio output and has separate discrete analog outputs. However, under the hood, there?s quite a bit more at stake.

Samsung Syncmaster 192MP 19 @ TweakNews

Published by Newsfactory 0

Throughout my two week testing period, I have thrown and connected pretty well everything at this monitor that I had in my testing lab and failed miserably at finding a weak point. With 19 inches of crystal clear and vibrant LCD viewing goodness, you would be hard pressed to find yourself unhappy with this purchase.

One factor that used to be a major disadvantage until now was gaming. Gaming with LCD monitors until this model was almost unbearable with the large amount of ghosting causing even the most beautifully rendered scenes to blend into a blurry unplayable mess. But in the case of the 192MP, an exemption to the rule has been created. Not only was gaming playable, it was downright enjoyable.

Chaintech ZNF3-150 Zenith

Published by Newsfactory 0

TheCrucible.ca has posted a review of Chaintech's Socket 754 nForce3 ZNF3-150 Zenith Motherboard. Here is a snippet: I was quite pleased with the performance of the ZNF3-150. It did a good job of keeping up with the two K8T800 boards. While still a hair slower, it proves that with some tweaking the nForce3 chipset can hold its own in the Athlon64 market place. The ZNF3-150 is a great looking board, the black PCB and orange/gold accents will make this a case modders favorite. So far aesthetics wise is my favorite.

Abit Radeon 9800XT at DriverHeaven

Published by Newsfactory 0

ABIT has announced that they will be marketing the 9600XT and the 9800 XT. Which to me are two of the best ATI has to offer. ABIT has the basics covered for anyone looking for the best mid range performing card and someone who may settle for nothing but the fastest. I have been given the chance to give the ABIT 9800XT a work out. However I wanted to add a bit more to this as there are several review already out for the 9800XT. In this review I will show the difference in performance one can expect when going from a 9700 Pro to the 9800XT as it is a question that is frequently asked on our forums.

VIA CL-10000 Mini-ITX Motherboard

Published by Newsfactory 0

Techseekers.net has looked at the VIA CL-10000 mini-itx motherboard. With Dual LAN it seems ideally suited to networking and routing. Not only did they test it under Windows XP, but with Fedora linux, and IP Cop also. They also test using a Gigabit Ethernet card to see can the CL-10000 keep up with it.

VIA have done it again. They have created a unique board for a unique market. For those of you wishing to create a little firewall or a quick network file server, the CL-10000 is an excellent choice. I remember when I got my first VIA Eden board, and I noted that it would be ideal if it had a second network port. And now the platform does. Having the second port on the board opens up new possibilites for the PCI slot.

Athlon FX-51 @ DriverHeaven

Over the past few months we have been lucky enough to have access to 2 different AMD 64bit processors, the Athlon 64 3200+ and the Opteron 146. We were completely impressed by the Opteron 146 and the Athlon 64 3200+ wasn?t half bad either. Today we have the opportunity to take a look at the final desktop model in the AMD series ? the Athlon 64 FX-51. We shall also put a Pentium 4 3.0ghz and Athlon XP 3200+ into the mix to complete the comparison.

Spire CopperStream II Heatsink @ CoolTechZone

There are many heatsinks in the market and choosing the right one can be a daunting task. The heatsinks can be separated into two main categories: heatsinks for normal usage and heatsinks designed for the enthusiast crowd. All air-cooling heatsinks are similar to each other. Ultimately, we see the same technologies being used in many heatsinks these days. There haven?t been many improvements done in this section and yet, we still see new models coming out everyday.

An MS Office Alternative: OpenOffice.org 1.1.1b Reviewed

Published by [NT] 0

OpenOffice.org 1.1.1b was released not too long ago, so I decided to take it for a spin and see how well it competed against MS Office 2003. Here's a quick quote from the review...

There is one feature which I found annoying at first, but after a few minutes got used to it and found it very useful. The Word Completion feature saves the user time by suggesting a word while you are typing. For example, when typing the word ?feature?, by the time the letters ?fea? are typed, OpenOffice.org suggest that the word you are trying to type is indeed ?feature? and highlights the word for you. A simple enter on the keyboard accepts the word. The Word Completion feature can be disabled for those that find it annoying by simply clicking Tools > AutoCorrect/AutoFomat > Word Completion tab. Yet if you learn to use this feature, you will find that it saves tons of typing time. The options for the Word Completion feature are extensively adjustable.
