Just saw this @ X-bitlabs.com...

According to the info coming from our unofficial sources, AMD is going to release a server Athlon MP 2100+ in the end of June-beginning of July. It is even more interesting that the new processor will support faster system bus, and the core logic ? faster memory type. The use of 166MHz FSB grants a pretty tangible performance increase by Athlon XP processors (see our article called AMD Athlon XP and 166MHz FSB: Why Not?), however there are no chipsets in the market yet, which could work at this frequency officially and be certified for server usage.

Graphics Technologies Compared!

Published by NewsFactory 0

Just saw this @ Theinquirer.net.

While it's common knowledge that ATI and Nvidia dominate the 3D Graphics hardware market right now, there are several new release on the horizon that could threaten that dominance. However, the old masters aren't sitting on their laurels, and both have next-generation products of their own in development.

In a strange twist, it's OS vendor Microsoft that is driving the market in 3D graphics hardware. Whilst previous versions of DirectX have been driven by hardware advances from companies like Nvidia, this time, with DirectX9.0 Microsoft is setting the bar higher than many of the hardware vendors might have imagined.

I was going to build a new PC using a AMD CPU and Abit motherboard but with this news I am going to wait a bit longer.

SYSTEM BUILDERS attending a Gartner summit in Monaco earlier this week went to a VIA presentation where they were told the firm would introduce three chipsets for AMD's Hammer microprocessors.

A system builder said VIA told him and a group of other integrators that one of these, called the K8UMA, would use integrated Zoetrope graphics with 800MHz Hypertransport links, while another VIA K8 chipset would provide similar functionality but without the integrated graphics.
