As mentioned on 12 December, the new 4.36 drivers contain a silent installation of a patch which adjusts a memory setting in BIOS on some VIA Apollo chipsets to ensure stability with the latest video drivers under all Windows Operating Systems. This patch has received an update, to support further chipsets and is available now for download on the Drivers Page (skip to page 3).

ViaHardware I've created a new version of the patch that so many people have already used to solve their IDE- and audio-related problems on VIA-based motherboards. The new version is 0.19, and it has several enhancements over the older versions:

* More VIA chipsets are supported
* "Standby" and "Hibernate" power management is supported on Windows 2000 and XP
* Installation is simpler
* More patches included: Aureal Vortex, Radeon LE
* CPU Idle bit is no longer patched, so CPUs run cooler
* VIA's MWQ patch is included (VIA's current patches have bugs)

Nvidia Responds To Detonator 23.11 Debate!

Well it seems like Nvidia has learned a lesson from recent discussions regarding the RX55 memory register `bug` contained in the latest 23.11 release and encountered on VIA Windows 2K/XP systems resulting in a performance loss as well as instant reboots and BSOD's. The 23.11 Detonator drivers have been removed as the official downloadable version. They have been reverted back to 21.83. On the other hand Nvidia is now offering Detonator XP 3D stereo drivers based on 23.11; released today. It also includes a silent installation of a patch which adjusts a memory setting in BIOS on some VIA Apollo chipsets to ensure stability with the latest video drivers under all Windows Operating Systems. The 4in1 drivers are the same for all VIA chipsets and all Microsoft operating systems (Win 95, 98, 98SE, 2000, ME & XP).

3DChipset's Fergal "silentfury" Warde has put together two sets of Detonators for the Dell users. And he has checked and the PowerMizer functionality does work with WinXP on this set. Gizmo's 3Dfx Glide Drivers (Voodoo 3/4/5)!

Gizmo has released some Glide drivers that fix the problem of OS hangs after exiting Glide applications/games. Here are some words from him:

These drivers: Glide3x.dll and Glide2x.dll originally from hujer_hoe, I just got glide to work without freezing on exit, sacrificing OpenGL but you can always switch Glide3x.dll and Glide2x.dll without restarting.. These drivers go in "c:Windowssystem32" basically where your current ones go.
