Mobo i'm looking for, it's for performance, But To mention this, I'm Not Planning on to overclock anything.
I want good onboard sound, so that i don't have to buy another sound card.
I don't need RAID, or any of those nice feats.

By the way, i'm planning on to buy the 2500 Athlon, Barton.

The Abit NF7-S and Asus are really nice boards with some great extras on them, infact both are pretty much identical boards when it comes down to it.

Im not sure on the Leadtek as most of thier Nvidia boards have on-board video, which you don't have to use, but does give a minor performance hit over the dedicated non-video mainboards.

Soltek/Chaintech are ok, but I still consider them to be slightly in the more budget range, they don't seem to give as many bios and other updates/support as Asus/Abit.

I can't really comment on AOpen as I haven't had much experience with them.

Well, I'm getting an Asus A7N8X-X.

It is a nForce2 400 based motherboard.

It is a single-channel solution, so it doesn't have the option to run in dual-channel mode (which provides slight performance increases under certain circumstanced, most gains are to be had when utilizing the IGP flavor).

nForce 400 = 400Mhz, single channel.
nForce 400 Ultra = 400Mhz, dual channel.

This board has no RAID, no SATA, no nothing gimmicky or that I'll need to spend hundreds extra to enjoy or appreciate.

8x AGP, 6 PCI, decent layout, onboard sound (bleh), 4 built in USB, header for 2 more :

A basic, FAST, solid motherboard from a proven manufacturer.

Oh, and it costs like $80. I placed the order last week, should get here early this week.

I can't wait. Got a ECS K7S5A now, and the motherboard is all I'm upgrading at the moment, but it should be a solid base for me for the next couple years...

Can you give me an idea of what I am getting into or point me towards resources discussing more fully the problems people have had with the A7N8X-X?

Thanks,
G

I would stick with the Epox board. Epox is my favourite, only very good experiences with it.

lol im staying away from epox, the last one i bought didnt fit properly in my atx case, even tho the mobo said atx too... the ram slots was paced too far out the side of the board, wich meant the cd-rom would block 2 of them.
had it swapped to a msi. and later replaced by a soltec, when the lighting struck :P

I was very close to going with the RDA+...it is such a hard decision deciding upon one board...

I'll play around with this A7N8X-X that I am getting (should be here wednesday) and I'll post my experience with it.

Damn it... Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro is NICE Board too .. but i don't have any experiences with this board, anybody got a good but short review on this too ?
Hmm, i have a choice between AMD & Intel.
If i buy Intel, i'll get the P4P800 board with a 2.4C Ghz 800Mhz FSB, but that costs me $100 more, plsu FedEx costs ,20% more ,aaah..!
while the Athlon 2500+ & either the Gigabyte board or the ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe costs me $100 less ... hmmm!

My final decisions are between

(When buying AMD)
- AThlon 2500+ Barton Core
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
Abit NF7-S

(When Buying P4)
- Intel 2.4C Ghz
ASUS P4P800
Gigabyte Ga-7n400 Pro

yepz, sticking along with 2x256MB PC3200, an upgrade of my Geforce4 MX440-SE to a Radeon 9200SE (Is it a good or bad upgrade ? I just want to have a better display on tv, cause the geforce is still a bit fuzzy) and Altec Lansing AVS500 replacing my Earthquake SP1800.

The Radeon 9200SE is an upgrade over a GFMX (even if just for the pixel shaders and tv-out,) but it isn't really a high end game card, it's just the AGP 8x version of the 9000 (I have this card) and they are pretty average game wise. I'd try and scrape together the extra and get a 9500/9600 at least.

If you do decide to go with the 9200SE be careful of the clock speeds (find some reviews of the brand you're getting first) because some manufacturers really *really* skimp on the 9000/9200 series and use really slow ram/cpu speeds which makes this card useless for anything but 2d work.

I'm really not sure what i'm gonna do here.
wait for Athlon 64 ? or jump to Intel ?
But upgrading an Intel is a pain in the ass, the prices are really killers, even though you get performance & much stability.
I've heard so much complains about the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, what's up with that ? It makes me want to go get the Abit NF7-S, it's all up to me, but i just want user's opinion on the deep specs & feats on each mobo.
I just want GOOD performing products.
Ok ,this sucks, i've checked reviews on the AVS500 from Altec Lansing & it disappoints me that many people dislikes this set.

I really dont' understand why everyone thinks that intel is more stable than AMD? If you builid your AMD system right e.g. ensure you have adequate PSU and HS/FAN theres no problem.

I've been using Athlons since the original T-birds came about and I've gotta say I've never had any problems at all. And none of my customers have either.

Intel suck ass!!!!!
