XnView MP version 1.12.2 has been released, enhancing its reputation as a versatile cross-platform image viewer. This software allows users to view, convert, organize, and edit both graphical and video files. It remains free for private, educational, and non-profit use, making it an appealing choice for a wide range of users who seek functionalities typically found in paid image viewers.
The software supports over 400 image file formats, as well as several audio and video formats, and can write to 50 image formats. Notably, XnView MP supports ICC profiles for JPEG, PNG, and TIFF files, and is capable of displaying IPTC, Exif, and XMP metadata, although it lacks batch editing capabilities for IPTC metadata—an often-requested feature among users.
While XnView MP offers robust functionality, it has some limitations, such as the inability to sort thumbnails by a user-defined order. It does provide powerful search capabilities for locating files with similar names or data, and users can visualize image histograms. The software also allows for the creation of scripts to batch process images, which includes converting, manipulating, and renaming multiple files efficiently.
Additionally, XnView MP includes a range of image editing tools, offering features for color and size adjustments, filters, and effects, along with support for lossless operations like turning, flipping, and cropping JPEG images. Users can create advanced slideshows, upload images to FTP sites or ImageShack, and burn images to CDs or DVDs (with the full version requiring Nero Burning ROM).
Overall, XnView MP is a comprehensive tool for image management, suitable for various users from hobbyists to professionals, with ongoing updates that aim to improve its functionality and user experience. Future updates may address current limitations and enhance existing features, making the software even more robust in the competitive landscape of image viewers
