WAIncognito for Chrome 2.5.1 released

Published by

The WAIncognito for Chrome extension, now at version 2.5.1, enhances user privacy on WhatsApp by allowing users to conceal their online presence. This tool disables read receipts and last-seen status updates, making it easier for individuals to engage with messages without feeling the pressure to respond immediately. The extension introduces a user-friendly menu in WhatsApp Web that enables toggling these features on and off, which can be applied to both one-on-one chats and group messages.

WAIncognito also extends its functionality to statuses and stories, helping users manage their visibility across the platform. An interesting feature is its ability to keep deleted messages and restore them later, offering additional flexibility. Users can set a safety timeout that delays the sending of read receipts for a defined period after opening a message. During this timeframe, a cancel button is available to stop the sending of receipts. The extension cleverly displays unread message counters in a transparent format until they are read, at which point they turn red, indicating that the user is currently in incognito mode.

As an open-source extension, WAIncognito empowers users to take control over their privacy on WhatsApp, allowing for a more discreet communication experience.

In addition to its core features, WAIncognito could benefit from further updates that include customizable notifications for incoming messages, enhanced compatibility with other browsers, and integration with privacy-focused tools to create a comprehensive privacy suite. Future iterations could also explore options for temporary anonymity settings, allowing users to switch into incognito mode for specific conversations or timeframes, further enhancing user control over their WhatsApp interactions
