Microsoft has released Visual Studio Code 1.136, introducing significant changes in how the editor manages AI coding agents through a new dedicated process called the Agent Host, which allows sessions to persist independently of editor windows. The accompanying hotfix, version 1.136.1, addresses issues with default prompts identified during the release candidate phase. The update also features the Agent Host Protocol (AHP), which enables third-party developers to create custom agent clients while ensuring compatibility with VS Code's workflow. Additionally, new functionalities such as Agent Merge, multi-root workspace support, and a hierarchical view for chat sessions have been added, reflecting the rapid evolution of AI coding tools within the platform
