Social Network Visualizer 3.8 released

Published by

The Social Network Visualizer (SocNetV) has recently been updated to version 3.8, enhancing its capabilities as a powerful tool for social network analysis and visualization. This application allows users to create and analyze social networks through various functionalities, such as drawing graphs or importing existing datasets in popular formats like GraphML, UCINET, and Pajek.

Key features of SocNetV include the ability to automatically generate common network datasets and create random network models, including scale-free and Erdős–Rényi types. It supports two-mode affiliation networks and enables fast calculations of centrality indices (such as Degree, Betweenness, and Closeness), as well as prestige and prominence indices. Users can employ different layout algorithms based on actor centrality or dynamic models, facilitating a visual representation of the network.

Other notable features include a comprehensive PageRank analysis, triad and clique census, structural equivalence methods, and the ability to crawl websites to generate networks. SocNetV is designed for efficiency, capable of handling large networks with over 1,000 actors and 10,000 edges while maintaining low memory and CPU usage. It also offers extensive export options, online manuals, and technical documentation to aid users in their analysis.

In extending its functionalities, future versions of SocNetV could incorporate advanced machine learning algorithms for predictive analytics, enhance user interface features for improved interaction, and expand support for additional data formats. Furthermore, integrating collaborative tools could facilitate shared analyses among researchers, thus broadening the application’s usability in academic and professional settings
