KDE neon released new rolling ISOs on October 25, 2026, featuring Plasma 6.8.1 as part of its 30th-anniversary celebration. The build includes KDE Gear 26.08.2, KDE Frameworks 6.31.0, and Firefox 158.0.1, all based on a stable Ubuntu 24.04 LTS foundation, offering the latest features and post-launch fixes. Notably, Plasma 6.8 marks a full transition to Wayland by discontinuing new X11 sessions and brings several enhancements like a built-in dwell clicker and improved system monitoring capabilities. While KDE neon provides a fast and direct way to experience KDE as intended, it comes with trade-offs in stability, making it more suitable for technical users who prefer cutting-edge software

KDE neon pushed new rolling ISOs on October 25, 2026, with the flagship User Edition desktop image already carrying Plasma 6.8.1 on top of the project's 30th-anniversary release. The build bundles KDE Gear 26.08.2, KDE Frameworks 6.31.0, and Firefox 158.0.1 on a stable Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, so you get the post-launch fixes baked in automatically. Plasma 6.8 itself landed on October 14 to land on KDE's 30th birthday, retiring new X11 sessions in favor of Wayland and pushing Union theming into beta. neon remains the fastest official route to run KDE "exactly as intended," at the usual trade-off of bleeding-edge stability over rock-solid reliability.
