John Carmack On DOOM 3

John, how the hell could you play a part in nVidia's driver/demo scam for the 5900 FX? HOW?!?! I truly thought you were the last bastion of true geekdom, a "pure scientist" so to speak of game programming who just did it for love and stuck to his guns and changed the fate of an entire industry...and you did. But this, this was cheesy John...real cheesy. If you felt such a need for a benchmark why the hell don't you just put one out?!? You KNOW nVidia had a huge advantage the way it was set up and you helped them in it! I'm terribly disapointed, and I feel I've really lost some innocence that I didn't even know I had left in me. :( "Beware of idols with feet of clay" :( G'luck John with your game, I wish you the best; but I ain't buying it after that crap and am hoping that half-life2 kills yours in popularity with it's gameplay. Karma is a bicht, don't cross her. :(

...I'd feel better if he'd have given the demo to both ATi & nVidia and given them time to make sure there were no driver bugs rather than giving notice to ATi after the fact. I'd be feeling frigging elated if'n he'd make a public benchmark so that we can all start seeing what kind of system you need to run Doom3 on. As it stands, I ain't real happy. :(

...that one really hasn't been proven and even iD says that ATi didn't leak it. (Although I tend to think they did too...it was just a leeetle too convinient. ) As it stands, I'll probably end up helping to warez the baby that the company puts out. :(

Yeah, I know...I'm just a romantic and naive fool at heart. :(

Go to www.nvnews.net and check out their forums, it's pretty well covered on both sides there. :)

I'd be feeling frigging elated if'n he'd make a public benchmark so that we can all start seeing what kind of system you need to run Doom3 on. iD has in the past always released a test demo. This allows them (id) to debug and the consumers to evaluate if their system can handle it. Have they announced that they're not going to do that this time?

It would obviously be in ID's favor to show this game running well across all platforms. That would indicate that ID is capable of the 'impossible'. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case. Maybe JC and ID really are just a man and a company and not a messiah. hrmmmppph... If you are running out of conspiracy theories, try this one: John Carmack agrees not to optimize Doom 3 for ATI so that ATI can sell a future card which will have those optimizations. For this ATI pays by taking the blame for an artificial 'leak' which was necessary or Nvidia would be outraged that they also did not get to distribute Doom 3 alpha to show off their hardware. So, basically, ATI bought off everyone and are setting payers up for the bluff followed by the full house. Very cunning, conneiving, and ...and...bastards!!! Remember that it was never the card available at launch that made the game. All those games gave the "wow, I need more" factor which drove people to upgrade. We can expect the next Nvidia and ATI products to be these solutions. Too bad ATI paid them off... Welcome to the bottom of this post. Now that you are done reading my sarcasm you can go on with your lives and perhaps play some fun game while you wait for Doom 3 (or is it Half-Life 2?) to be OFFICIALLY released. Have a nice day.
