PCI Power

Published by Newsfactory 2

Just got word from my good mate Anton Nilsson over at Nordic Hardware that their Radeon 9200 and GeForce FX 5200 PCI-Express card reveiew is out!

We rarely test really cheap graphics cards here at NH. We often stick to cards in the range $180 to $700. Today is an exception; we are testing two PCI based graphics cards. The two cards are Radeon 9200 and GeForce FX 5200. In other words they aren't the fastest cards on the market.

This time I?m putting some CAS2 rated 3500 DDR into an watercooled P4 northwood system and seeing just what gains/timings and figures can be achieved by overclocking this ram with some high voltages. My reason for choosing this particular ram was due to the fact id heard a lot of good things about it in an overclocked environment.

nForce3 250GB

Published by Newsfactory 0

The FiringSquad have thrown up their review of Nvidia's nForce3 250GB motherboard! Here's a snip.

Much like the original nForce chipset, NVIDIA?s early 64-bit chipset efforts got off to a slow start with nForce3 150 and nForce3 Pro 150. The chipset lacked native Serial ATA support, relying instead on an external controller. In comparison, VIA?s K8T800 was more feature-rich and offered better performance, making it the early favorite among Athlon 64 users.

Thermalright SLK-948U Heatsink Review @ CoolTechZone

Quote from article:
Cooling is one of the major concerns for an enthusiast. We like to overclock our processors to ultimate speeds but for those of us who can't afford water-cooling kits, it's hard to reach the unbelievable speeds. For affordable thermal solutions, we turn to air-based heatsinks. We want something that works just as well as some of the affordable water-cooling kit.

nForce3 250: Second generation Athlon 64

Published by Newsfactory 1

Hexus have thrown up their review of Nvidia's upcoming nForce3 250 mainboard! Here's a snip.

It's been an almost insufferable wait for the second generation of Athlon 64 and Opteron chipsets from AMD's chipset partners. While the initial products - VIA's K8T800 and NVIDIA's nForce3 150 spring immediately to mind - are competent and allowed the processors to breathe freely and perform well, there's always been a couple of annoying niggles, as is always the case with the very first revisions of such things.

VIA EPIA ME6000 Mini-ITX Motherboard @ Tweaknews.net

Published by Newsfactory 0

I am quite happy with the Epia ME6000. Certainly, there are a couple things that I would have liked to see done differently. The ability to handle faster DDR would have been nice, not to mention the availability of more USB headers on the motherboard. And were it possible, an AGP slot would propel this motherboard much further for HTPC users. Lastly, the file transfer on this system is quite slow.

However, let's stack that against the boards strong points? low power consumption, fanless for ultra-quiet operation, geared toward HTPCs and multimedia users, 6 channel sound, embedded MPEG-2 decoder, DDR support up, and the list goes on.

Abit AI7 at DriverHeaven

Published by Newsfactory 1

Back when I used Athlon XP?s I went through a plethora of motherboards trying to find one that worked the way I wanted, had the features I wanted and was reasonably priced. Eventually I settled on the NF7-S (2.0) which was a great board. As well as meeting the above requirements it was also an excellent overclockers board if you had the right CPU.

Therefore when I decided to make myself a Pentium 4 system a couple of months ago the first motherboard manufacturer I looked at was ABIT, eventually settling on the AI7. Hoping for a similar experience to the NF7-S would I be disappointed?
