Published by Newsfactory 0

AMDZone have thrown up their Opteron 246 1P review! where they even managed to over Overclock the 2GHz Opteron 246 to 2.25GHz on a nForce 3 Pro!

They tested the single CPU configuration against the P4 3.2GHz and of course the Athlon XP 3200+ and a Opteron 144. Is 2GHz enough for the 246 to beat the P4 clocked 1.2GHz higher? It looks like it is.

Thermaltake Spark7+ CPU Cooler Review

Published by Newsfactory 0

Hardware Pacers has posted a review on the Thermaltake Spark7+, here's a snip.

The Thermaltake Spark7+ cooler was able to provide 1100 MHz FSB @ 3.3Ghz Processing speed at 1.75V, however it was only stable @ 3.2GHz. On the other hand, the ugly Intel stock cooler was not sufficient enough to overclock the CPU to 2.7 GHz. Relating to noise, even @ 45C the fan was not at full speed, it only span around 4000 RPM, max is 6000 RPM."

Looking back at the period I used the above cards I could not have been happier with the performance and image quality. For approximately £130 Sapphire and Gigabyte have given users the opportunity to experience games using 4xAA and 16xAF with no concerns about stuttering graphics, even in the latest games such as Unreal Tournament and Elite Force 2.

MSI MEGA 651 PC @ Viper Lair

Published by Newsfactory 0

Like other popular SFFs, the MEGA 651 is still "cube" in appearance, and offers support for fast CPUs and an AGP slot, but it has some unique ideas that target those specifically looking into building a Home Theater PC (HTPC).

As a PC, the MEGA 651 proved to be a decent performer, despite using a one-year-old chipset. Performance surpassed the XPC SS51G, though it was clearly outclassed by the ABIT IC7. The MEGA 651 did not crash once during testing, which bodes well if you like to work, as well as play.

Through my testing of this particular motherboard, the system was unreliable, the BIOS couldn't be updated and would reset itself when ever it wanted, the SATA would not work through the southbridge and the overclocking and overall performance was substandard when compared to an equally equipped motherboard from another manufacturer.

BFG 5900 Ultra

Published by Newsfactory 2

Just got word that Clay Angelly over at Nvnews.net has thrown up his BFG 5900 Ultra Review!

The BFG Asylum GeForce FX 5900 Ultra left me with a mighty fine twitch. In fact, it's the first time since the Voodoo2 that I've experienced such a dramatic jump in performance over previous graphics cards. Even on my somewhat average system. What BFG states on the box: "TURN IT ALL ON" is dead-on accurate. I made a point to max out every possible graphical setting in all games tested and in the majority of cases, this GeForce FX 5900 Ultra card didn't break a sweat until the combination of 1600x1200 and 8X AA was used.

MSI is well known for packing in a lot of features and extras into their products, and doing so at a lower price point than the competition. So, how does their FX5900 solution fit in?

"Compared to our stock speed Splinter Cell numbers, we see an increase of about 2 to 3FPS across all the non-AA resolutions, and the 8xAA/8xAF resolutions. Not much of an increase, so we'll leave it up to you if it's worth the risk in OCing."
