Creative Inspire 5300 5.1 Speakers Review!

Published by NewsFactory 0

Just got word from Haddad that their new Creative Inspire 5300 5.1 speaker review is now online.

With every new soundcard line Creative launches, they also get ready a complimentary range of SoundWorks speakers to come along with them. In fact, with the Audigy introduction it came the new Inspire line.

This time around we are taking a close look to the Inspire 5300 speakers, coming as budget 5.1 system, essentially replacing the DTT 2200. Retailing in most places for less than $90, maybe and this is exactly the kind of system you were looking for.

Comprehensive Soundcard Round Up!

Published by [PM] 0

Well this is finally one of the read worthy reviews around. The Tech-Report has been working hard on this comparative review covering the basics of 3DSound and six different soundcards: Hercules / Turtle Beach / Philips and Creative Labs make their stand in the review. In most cases, the differences we uncovered here aren't anything to write home about. The Muse XL was notably slower than the rest in the benchmarks, but otherwise everything was pretty even. As for the listening tests, all of the differences we heard were the results of back-to-back tests, but no matter what we said about any of the cards, none of them were objectionable. The days of ISA Sound Blasters that hiss like a cat are gone; unless there's a really bad card out there that we didn't include, the state of PC sound today is that even the worst card sounds pretty darn good. If one were to listen to any of these cards by itself, one probably wouldn't find any gross deficiencies in audio quality (with the possible exception of the overdone EAX effects in Serious Sam, but we're not sure whether to blame that on the sound cards or the game developers).

Lian Li PC6089A Case Review!

Published by [PM] 0

MikhailTech is one of the first site's to get a close look on one of Lian Li's latest case offerings. Our review sample is on the way so be sure to check back with us sometime next week to read our's. Here is a snip: The front door is made of plastic (probably acrylic) and has a pair of clips which compress when you push in; this allows for the door to lock/unlock. It's attached using two hinges at the top and bottom, both of which are secured by hex screws. The window is translucent blue and smooth except for the portion covering the 5.25" bays. I don't see a reason why it's there but probably for looks. Also notice the two vertical "bulbs" on either side of the bays. MikhailTech Review

GeekExtreme Reviews The Avocent SwitchView MP KVM Switch!

Published by NewsFactory 0

If you are a true geek, you hunger for more computing power all the time, no matter what you currently have. Overclocking your computer (successfully) to 4.5GHz wouldn't be enough. Nothing is enough.

You want it all. You could win a brand new 10GHz multiprocessor system tomorrow and within minutes you'd be saying "Please sir, can I have some more?" Computers are cheap these days, so it's not uncommon to find a Geek hiding in a dark little room illuminated only by the glow of two or three monitors, his desk cluttered by two or three keyboards, two or three mice, in addition to the usual geek stuff. If you're like me, the only reason you DON'T have two or three computers on your desk is because you can't afford two or three really good monitors (anything less than 19" is tiny to me) and you don't want to keep switching back and forth. Even if you only pay $150 a pop for 19" monitors -- that gets expensive quickly. Enter the SwitchView MP.

Belkin Wireless Networking Solutions!

Published by NewsFactory 0

The Belkin 11Mbps Wireless Access Point (WAP) is designed to act as a "bridge" between your existing wired network, and your wireless devices. It has been built around the assumption that you already have a wired network in place, be it a corporate sized LAN with routers and switches or just a small office / home network with a couple of routers, hubs, or gateways. This device allows you to add wireless capabilities to your existing LAN, simply by plugging this device into your wired network, and giving it an IP address either by setting it manually, or by allowing your existing DHCP server to assign it an IP address. The wireless access point will then be able to "relay" data from your wireless devices to your wired network, thus acting as a router / gateway for your wireless devices and workstations.

DDR Memory Performance Roundup!

Published by [NT] 0

With DDR memory now in the affordable price range, and motherboard manufacturers phasing out SDRAM on nearly every new board, it looks like DDR is definitely here to stay. Even corporate giant Intel dumped the once-all-mighty RAMBUS, and opted for integration of DDR support into their chipsets and motherboards, only to join forces and rise to power with the P4. Memory manufacturers are doing a good job of producing high-quality RAM for demanding systems and the ever-changing industry, but how do you know what's what on the memory front? There are so many different DDR modules available these days, it's hard to know which one will offer the best performance. Press Read More for further info.

MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU @ Viperlair!

Published by [PM] 0

MSI is well known for their quality boards, but they've been separating themselves from other manufacturers by packaging more into their products, while staying competitive with their pricing. "With the KT3 Ultra-ARU, MSI hopes to continue the tradition of offering quality motherboards. Early indications look good, as everything one would want in a modern Athlon motherboard is present. The KT333? Checked. ATA133 support? Checked. RAID? Checked. USB 2.0? Checked. Good software bundle? Checked. No on-board audio? Well, it's here, but it isn't as bad as one would expect, as it has 6-channel support." Viperlair

VIA P4PB P4X333 Review!

Published by NewsFactory 0

VR-Zone has done up a review on the new VIA P4PB board based on recently launched VIA P4X333 chipset supporting 533Mhz bus speed, DDR333 and AGP 8X.

The box design has took quite a change and this time it is simple but sleek looking with cool blue shading... The board sports a nice blue PCB typical of Gigabyte boards. It comes with onboard CMedia 6 Channel Audio, VT6202 USB 2.0 chip and Promise ATA-133 RAID. We have compared the performance of this board against Intel 850E, Intel 845G and SiS645DX boards.

Crucial PC2700 DDR Review @ Viperlair!

Published by NewsFactory 0

The KT333 has been out for some time now, but true PC2700 DDR ram has been slower to come by. There are boatloads of overclocked "PC2700" modules out there, but Crucial is one of the few whose ram is certified for these speeds...

Crucial's ram, in theory, should run more reliably, and produce fewer memory related errors since it's built on a 6 layer PCB process, and is officially JEDEC approved. They're also not a fly by night operation, and have tech support that will actually provide tech support. Remember that, as a lot of "PC2700+" ram probably doesn't fall within specifications.

Watercooling: Aquastealth Extreme II Review!

Published by NewsFactory 0

Aselabs got a new watercooling kit review online for all peeps out there looking for some decent cooling. Check out their review for more details.

I removed all the items in the box one by one and for the first time I really saw the true size of my new water cooler unit. The radiator and pump/tank were smaller than I envisioned from the photo (even next to the 120mm fan I really didn?t take note), but as depicted in the picture all the major components are painted black or blackpowder coated (to prevent tarnishing or water spots) except for the bottom of the water block.

ABIT KX7-333R Overclocking Review!

Published by NewsFactory 0

VR-Zone has done up a review on the new ABIT KX7-333R board based on the VIA KT333 chipset. Unlike AT7, KX7-333R comes with the PS/2 legacy ports, 4 DIMM, 6 PCI slots, ATA-133 RAID and Debug LEDs.

Since ABIT boards are meant for performance seekers and overclockers therefore i have checked out its overclockability in details touching on the components and the BIOS options that will aid overclocking. I have managed to push the FSB to 200Mhz at most aggressive timings and 225Mhz at SPD timings! Therefore ABIT KX7-333R has reclaimed its overclocking title from EPoX 8K3A+.

Visiontek Xtasy GeForce4 MX440 Review!

Published by NewsFactory 0

The GeForce4 MX GPU is probably one of the most controversial chips NVIDIA has released so far, while its name clearly indicates that forms part of NVIDIA?s next-generation GPU line, in reality MX chips only share part of the complete feature set of GeForce4 Titanium chips, hence the considerably lower price tag.

Visiontek, a name brand we have all come to know, has been distributing their MX videocards for quite some time now. This time we are putting their GeForce4 MX440 videocard to the test @ TechSpot.
