ATI: Do we (not) need the DirectX 9?

Published by Newsfactory 0

Just saw this @ReactorCritical.com!

ATI's executives do not think that the RADEON 9700 sales are going to be affected by the absence of DirectX 9. Most of games available on the market these days utilise DirectX 7 and some of them certain DirectX 8.1 functions. There are almost no games to support pixel and vertex shaders currently, as a result, most of enthusiasts, who have purchased the most advanced graphics board of today play comparatively old games with maximum quality of rendering. Tuning anisotropic filtration and enabling FSAA is basically the only advantage the RADEON 9700 can provide these days. It is bad? No!

New NV30 Details

Published by Newsfactory 0

David Kirk, NVIDIA's chief scientist describe NV30 as a full floating point processor with thousands of instructions and a high level language. For the past years, NVIDIA main focus is on improving the GPU speed rather than designing a complicated pipe but for NV30, things will change. CineFX architecture work in conjunction with Cg programming language will make NV30 a fully programmable GPU with flexible instructions for vertex and pixel processing. It is expected that Microsoft will probably start supporting CineFX architecture with DirectX 9.1 therefore NV30 may be based on DirectX 9.1 when launched.
