hmmm I use my ICH9R in AICH mode which requires a driver, too

download the:

RAID/AHCI Software - Intel® Matrix Storage Manager (5640KB)
7.0.0.1020 5/4/2007

start the setup (you do NOT need to install it) and goto:
C:WINDOWSTempIIFWinall

copy the appropriate folder to a FD or use the nLite TXTSETUP integration mechanism (which works for me)

oh I just saw there is a newer version available

RAID/AHCI Software - Intel® Matrix Storage Manager (6858KB)
8.2.0.1001 6/2/2008

which extracts to:
C:WINDOWSTempIIF2Winall

I did notice something however ....
yesterday I upgraded my 7.8 to the 8.2 driver and it has some serious drawback ...
I have 3 drives installed which can all power down after 25 minutes idle time

what I noticed today is, that when the drives power back on for some reason (may want to access a file) the complete system hangs for 1-3s ...
that alone would not bug me that much, but when watching video or listening to music the sound output disappears ... I have to restart the current track to get back some audio output

so I am going to switch back to 7.8

my Backup HD sounds a lil bit when going to sleep etc...
after opening a Folder...my System hangs, too!

going to test the 7.8 Driver, too
