if he installed SP2 he must have DX9c
I mean a command line switch ... a parameter you start sims with .. the problem - I don't remember that switch ... just know that there was one ..
so maybe you ask for possible commandline switches for sims and try them
also do you use somekind of refreshrate fix or modded monitor .inf ?

I've just got this as well with my newly delivered Sims2 (not Warez),
Very frustrating, i'm looking into it now, think it might be because I manually installed DirectX9.0C ripped from an pre-release build of SP2.
However cannot re-install DirectX 9.0c because it says it's already up to date.
Ok so I am forced to install SP2 (which I don't want or need), however I can't because Windows update does not work even if I enable all the services.
Can I find solution on EA's Sims2 site, hell no, it's not working.
I give up, what a load of bollocks, nice one Microsoft & EA.
UPDATE : -
Managed to re-install DX9.0C to latest build
see here http://www.warp2search.net/forums/viewtopi...p?p=23698#23698
but still didn't work.

i hope we can work it out together.

any more luck tuckwit? i've tried heaps of things, im installing SP2 now as i havn't come accross anyone who has it that has this problem. so i'll see how that goes and reply back.
let me know the things you have tried. i also tried the shortcut commands, like -w and all that with no luck.
the shortcut switch commands are listed in the readme file for those that want to know.

Well thanks to your advice I took the final solution and installed SP2, and now it works OK, don't see why SP2 should be a requirement.
Still I'm happy now, really didn't want SP2, just have to re-tune windows all over again.
