then just use an OC tool and overclock it ..
thats the only thing a bios update does
and its very very much less risky and can be done within a minute

check homepage vor atitool

Now THAT is the best advice I've read on here in a LONG time. You're a wise man, Mertsch.

Two of the best utilities I've found are (as Mertsch suggests) ATI Tool and Radlinker/Radclocker. I use them both and they are bullet proof, about as simple (to use) as you can get and they actually work extremely well. Free stuff just doesn't get much better than that.

Later.

I agree with the above... if you had a 9500np or 9800se and you didn't mind the chance of losing your card, I might suggest a BIOS/Driver Mod, but the 9600 series is unmoddable, and really your best chance as a good speed increase is overclocking with software. Just make sure you have decent cooling, and lower the clock if you get any crashes/visible graphic errors.

OP
I have done my fare share of OC'ing I just wanted to know if i could flash my 9600xt to somthin better...stock speeds are 499/300.
With overdrive i get 549/300.... the most i eve got it stable was 565/335. After that is when the problems start hitting....like in the middle of a bench my system reboots :(

to answere the question again

NO

a BIOS "hack" will bring in 95% of all cases just a higher default clock speed and no other improvement taht cannot be done via software
