Following our previous report there is further information available now. Creative spokesman Wynne Leong confirmed yesterday that the Singapore company was 'invited to invest' in Lucasfilm's THX division.
The Creative spokesman declined to say how much was pumped into the previously wholly-owned unit of Lucasfilm, adding that it was not a 'material' transaction and therefore did not require Creative to provide details to shareholders. But market watchers hailed the move, saying that even a small stake in a world-famous company like the Star Wars director's Lucasfilm THX was a coup for Creative, which has dreams of becoming a home entertainment equipment giant. An analyst from a major foreign broking house pointed out that an invitation from Lucasfilm THX was in itself significant, because 'a leader in sound technology will not invite just any company to become a shareholder, no matter how small the stake'.
