NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Driver 617.70: What It Fixes and What It Leaves Broken

Published by

NVIDIA has released the GeForce Hotfix Driver 617.70 to address two display bugs affecting high-refresh-rate 360Hz G-SYNC Pulsar monitors. The update fixes an unintended 320 FPS cap on these monitors and provides a partial resolution for black flashes occurring on QHD displays, but does not address the issue of G-SYNC disappearing after the monitor wakes from sleep. Users are advised to install the hotfix if they experience these specific problems, but it cannot be downloaded through the NVIDIA app and requires a manual installation. Additionally, a workaround for remaining black flashes involves adjusting the power management settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel to "Prefer Maximum Performance," although this may lead to increased power consumption

NVIDIA released GeForce Hotfix Driver 617.70 as an out-of-band patch built on 617.42 WHQL that addresses two high-refresh-rate display bugs. The first fixes an unintended 320 FPS cap on 360Hz G-SYNC Pulsar monitors, while the second only partially resolves black flashes on 360Hz QHD displays (Bug IDs 6408986 and 4846825). It doesn't touch a third problem, G-SYNC disappearing after a monitor wakes from sleep, and can't be installed through the NVIDIA App. NVIDIA says only affected users should install it, and offers a "Prefer Maximum Performance" workaround for the remaining black flashes.
