AM 9.8 released

Published by

The newly released "AM" version 9.8 introduces multilingual support, allowing users to download and compile translations for various languages beyond English. Users can create translations using any .po editor, such as Poedit, with the source file located in the "translations" section of the repository. Currently, available languages include Czech, Serbian, Spanish, and Italian, while German and Russian translations generated by AI may contain syntax errors and require review.

To facilitate language switching, the new `translate` or `--translate` option allows users to specify a "trusted" language code to change the interface language. If an unsupported language code is entered, English will be used as the default. Users will be notified of new language packs upon updating the application.

Additional enhancements in version 9.8 include improved AM packaging for distributions, notifications regarding the use of wget2, a new template for installing multiple program variants, colored output for updates, and support for the NO_COLOR variable for users who prefer a non-colored interface.

The collaborative effort behind these translations is acknowledged, with credits given to contributors for specific languages. Users are encouraged to submit pull requests for any new translations or corrections.

Overall, "AM" 9.8 aims to create a more inclusive and user-friendly experience by embracing a diverse range of languages and enhancing its functionality. For continuous improvements, community feedback and contributions are welcomed.

AM 9.8 released

"AM" 9.8 is a new release that supports languages apart from the classic English. Users can now download and compile translations for their language using any.po editor, such as Poedit. The source file is source.po, available in the "translations" section of the repository. To use the new option, translate or --translate, users can use a "trusted" language code or switch between languages. The workflow will automatically create the.mo files needed to use the languages in "AM".

The languages currently available include Czech (cs), Serbian (sr), Spanish (es), and Italian (it). Deutch (de) and Russian (ru) have been generated by AI, so they are subject to possible syntax errors. Users who use AppMan mode or install programs locally from AM will use AM modules instead of creating new ones for AppMan, avoiding duplication. Other changes include enhancements to AM packaging in distributions that incorporate it into their package manager, notifications for users if their distro maintainer is linking wget to wget2, a new template for selecting and installing multiple variants of the same program, colored update output, and support for the NO_COLOR variable.
