Do you think it's a sign or just my weird timing in action again? I finally made the switch yesterday from me much beloved M$ optical to an mx510 yesterday. I'm loving the mx510, sweet mouse....now I'm just wondering if'n I can make it a bit more sweeter... ;)

I've had a MX510 for a couple of months now, its a FPS Gamers dream mouse. Never messed with the USB rate for it though.

If you don't count in the special registry tweak for USB 2.0...(that only works with SP2 too) then you should use PS/2, if you compare standard usb 2.0 to ps/2 then ps/2 is faster because it is dedicated to the mouse... (then you get the option in the logitech driver controls to set the report rate to 200... the standard report rate for usb is lower (150 or something...)

Yes, show me those charts an graphs.

Is there a difference between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 for mice? And I think a report rate of 150 is pretty sufficient. Even 100 is.

To call it retarded is a bit much, but it is true that its fairly pointless. Using the Device Manager in windows, accessing the mouse properties it will let you change the refreshrate of the PS/2 port up to 200hz. This should be prefered to changing the USB ports polling speed. PS/2 takes less CPU and most USB mice work perfectly at 200hz on the PS/2 port. 200hz is more than enough, its just the polling speed of the port. No mouse needs more than 200hz, and theres no way you would "feel" anything above that.

Well after reading all the comments here and at a few other places I posted up about it at I've decided that overclocking the USB port is sort of useless and definately a bit dangerous and it looks like using the ps2 port for the mouse and setting the rate to 200 is the way to go. Thanks for the input all, it is very much appreciated. I learned a lot. :)
