This article is full of errors and some of it is COMPLETELY backwards ! Makes nvidia look like a victim ! The author is now in the Beyond3d forums and is taking the critisism well. He is offering to rewrite the article. The guys at B3D are very clued up and know the truth better than most.

5200 is a good product because it offers decent (depending on who you are) performance for a very good price.

Maybe nvidia is a victim, but i think that if the DX9 standard was as nvidia wanted, WE would be the victims because games would take longer and IQ in 'lesser' games from lazy developers could be poor (too much FP16). As it is FP24 is the right choice for the gamer. The nvidia DX9 ideal is wrong, and it would still be wrong if microsoft had gone with it. You say you dont expect nvidia to make the mistakes agtain.. well from what i read it looks like the NV40 will be no better off . I run a business that depends on these cards, i made the decision to avoid the FX (after getting a couple) and it was the right choice. The FX5700 changes nothing.

it doesnt make nVidia look like a victim. it says that if nVidia hadnt been sleeping in class, things might have been different. Ii agree that nv3x is a beautifull design, but unfortunaly not targeted to what DX9.0 ended up being. ATi might have a problem with the next batch of cards since they now have to go FP32 and deal with the problems nvidia has right now. i agree with most of what he writes - even though im a fanATIc and have been since the first ever Radeon (radeon 64 vivo :D~~). but yea, it was so much nicer to be a fanATIc back when the bulk of idiots was having nvidia cards. i'm not visiting Rage3d more because of that.. i think the general IQ of the user base dropped 50% with the 9700.

ATI doesnt need to go FP32 for years yet. From what i have read even DX10 will be FP24 so why should they bother ? Even if it is FP32 in DX10 it will be several card generations before FP32 is required. I doubt the R500 ill need to be FP32 let alone the R420.
