actually that is pretty good if its just using the CPU. all that nice lighting etc. but yeah really low res

Impressive stuff and nice to see those not following the mainstream getting some coverage. You can up the resolution by editing the config.cfg file using a text editor. Try setting scrmode=4 (first entry). You will need to set the config file to "read only" in its properties after editing as the launcher will otherwise reset these values. You will get a warning at launch, but it should run ok.
