A Journey Across the Ocean: Shaders and R420
Thanks to Andrey Vorobiev for the following information.
This is based on a presentation done the last month which seems to be recently translated, and it's related to the ATI R420 Video Cards unveiling. Even with that, it still shows some very interesting videos of upcoming games, performance enhancements over previous hardware and the competition and some interesting PR information....lots of images....worth a look.
Part 1 Includes the presentation and demos.
Part 2 includes a short interview.

What's the use of a pixelshader 3.0 Chip today?
3DCenter have posted an in-depth look at what benefits pixelshader 3.0 Chip have today? Here's a snip.
Contrary to nVidia, ATi has resolved as regards their new flagship, the R420 to do without a pixelshader 3.0. The effects of this decision are naturally limited predictable. As it will take some time until the official presentation of both adversaries, we want to bridge the time until the launches take place with a little mental tug and war on the effects of the technical (not featurewise) differences between pixelshader 2.0 and 3.0.

Prescott effects on motherboard power circuits
The Madshrimps take a closer look at the possible problems motherboard makers could face when using Prescott CPU's with the current crop of motherboards out there. Quote: "All of the motherboards we have used with Prescott's run hotter than we are used to. It is not uncommon to see components on the motherboard at 250F/120C degrees"

5 way Athlon64 VIA K8T800 based motherboard roundup
Techseekers.net has looked at 5 K8T800 based boards for Athlon 64, the Gigabyte GA8VNXP, MSI K8T Neo FISR2, Asus K8V Deluxe, Epox 8HDA3+ and the Biostar K8VHA Pro. These boards are compared to the Abit KV8 Max3 previously reviewed. While not based on the latest K8T800 Pro chipset, the boards still pack some cool features.
It is pretty evident from the performance tests, that the K8T800 performs equally well no matter what board its on. Since performance is not a deciding factor we must turn to the features."

It's not quite right (shader on her face is too dark among other things) yet, but it kind of works. It's also 'really' slow for me. Mostly caused by oh so much ram paging... ow, this thing likes a LOT of memory (especially since I have to make it use the Managed pool for textures instead of the Default pool).

Nvidia synergy only for new products
Just spotted this bit of Info over at the TechReport.
Nvidia has confirmed that efforts to optimize the nForce system platform for GeForce graphics will only improve performance with nForce3 and newer chipsets in combination with GeForce FX and newer graphics products. We've already documented the performance advantage associated with pairing a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra with an nForce3 250Gb, and new GeForce 6800 series graphics cards should see a performance boost, as well. However, older nForce2 and GeForce4 products won't benefit from NVIDIA's platform-dependent graphics optimizations.

Since I wrote the Kyro 3 story. I've received quite some input on the matter.
It now seems Nvidia is the owner of tile-based rendering, and that would mean that we might one day see a GeForce model with a tremendous performance boost, if Nvidia manages to integrate the technology into their GPU's.
