Intel to announce two new Itanium 2 chips at IDF next week

The first microprocessor will be clocked at 1.4Ghz while the other model will be clocked at 1.6Ghz. Both models will feature the same amount of L2 cache. The 1.4Ghz processor will be available in the market right after the official announcement, sources said. This leads us to believe that the retailers might have already received the units. The 1.6Ghz model, however will be available in the market at the end of May, sources close to Intel confirmed.

The french site Clubic.com has exclusive informations about ATI's next gen 3D chip, here's a small extract in english :

Reliable industry sources relatively close to ATI, told french website Clubic.com, ATI is going to have a sixteen pixel pipelines part starting this spring. Being part of the R420 familly this part is supposed to be a R420 and will likely be available in AGP 8x & PCI-Express 16x flavors.

On Tuesday, Intel Corp. announced a new design it will undertake to lower the costs of it's Itanium line processors. According to Intel, it's Xeon and Itanium chips will use the same socket. The enterprise and high-end consumers will be able to switch between Xeon and Itanium processor on the same motherboard.

The French site X86-Secret have posted a rumour that AMD will launch their Socket 939 Athlon 64 3500+ CPU on 25th of May 2004? Here's a snip.

After several successive carryforwards, AMD recently informed its partners of the future date of launching of the platform Socket 939. Wishing to precede INTEL and its advertisement of the LGA775 in June, the launching of Athlon FX and Athlon 64 Socket 939 are now planned for Tuesday 25 May 2004.

AMD to introduce low-powered Athlon64 2700+ Mobile processor

AMD is set to release a new Mobile processor based on AMD's new 64-bit Mobile architecture, according to a document accidently publised on AMD's website. The 2700+ is a low-end Athlon64 based Mobile processor, which consumes less power to compete with Intel's Centrino chipset and the Pentium M processor.

R420, NV40 Get Names and Birthdates

Recently we received confirmation that the first retail samples of ATI's R420 (AGP Radeon X800) will debut April 26 as Radeon X800 Pro. NVIDIA's NV40 (GeForce 6800) officially launches April 13th, but retail availability will occur around April 26th. Notice the NV40 product to be released April 13th is GeForce 6800, not GeForceFX 6800. ATI's naming scheme for R420 has been closely guarded as well, but the open term we hear from vendors is "Radeon X800."
