New, more or less unofficial GeForce 7900 GTO graphics cards from Nvidia have started to pop up in various online retail stores, as we noticed last Friday. These cards have the same cooler and specifications as the GeForce 7900 GTX, but their memory is clocked at 660MHz (1.32GHz effective) instead of 800MHz, and they're selling for around $250 instead of $400+.

With the release of the G80, NVIDIA will also release a new engine dubbed Quantum physics engine. Quantum Effects Technology is similar (at least in spirit) to NVIDIA's PureVideo Technology -- a dedicated layer on the GPU for physics calculations. A few documents alluding to this new engine appeared on public FTP mirrors late last week.

Yorkfield Extreme Edition based on the 45nm Penry core architecture will meet heads-on with AMD Altair based on the 65nm K8L core in Q3 2007. A resourceful guy in our forum has spotted some pics of the G80 card. There appears to be 2 types of cooling employed; air or hybrid water/air cooling but both took up 2 slots. There are 2 power connectors on the card and has 1GB of GDDR4 memories onboard. We have heard that the hybrid water/air cooler might not be available this time round but slated for later stage.
