ATi has just made a very cool decision regarding their AIB partners. They have chosen to stop adding their stock coolers to some of their regular shipments to AIB?s. They will still provide them if AIB?s choose to use them, but default shipments will not contain coolers. This could very well be a win-win scenario for everyone

AMD has released details of its next-generation desktop CPU interface, Socket AM3, to its OEM partners. In a mildly surprising move, AMD has revealed that AM2 will accept AM2 or AM3 CPU packages.

Do you own one of the early Upgrade series of board. If you own the K8Upgrade-1689 Socket 754, you are in luck. Thanks to ASRock, they have released a new BIOS upgrade which allows you to upgrade the S754 board to Socket 939 (already available since 2004) and now to Socket AM2 !

It turns that the fancy Nvidia G80 chip taped out, and in working silicon stage it will have 32 pixel Shaders and, as predicted, have 16 vertex and geometry Shaders.

There are some Quake 4 screenshots at 3dfxzone.it italian forum. Quake 4 was runned on Microsoft Windows XP using a Vooodoo5 5500 PCI video card. 3dfx software configuration was based on SFFT Alpha driver.

Replacing old weapons, ATi is going to finalize the specification and designation of RV560/570 in the coming weeks. RV570 is to replace X1900GT with the same performance but a lower cost. RV570XT is probably designated to X1900GT, same with R580GT, or a new X1950 family.

Nvidia will launch upgraded versions of the GeForce 7900 GTX and GeForce 7900 GT graphics cards that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) between July and the middle of August, with the cards continuing to be manufactured by Flextronics, according to sources at Taiwan graphics card makers.

NVIDIA has now well and truly broken out as the number one chipset supplier for the AMD platform and they are also making their way onto the Intel scene. They have become so dominate on the AMD platform that they are now able to offer a wide range of supporting chipsets. They plan to offer total support to AM2 users with a range of four different chipsets, being the nForce 590 SLI, 570 SLI, 570 Ultra and 550.

Overheated system chipsets can cause instability, causing unpredictable system crashes. It tends to happen when an inferior wafer/die is used in manufacturing. If the power dissipation exceeds specification, cooling is required or it will kill the chip. That's why el-cheapo VCD players always break down - so you have to buy again.

Has SLI improved with the new GeForce 7600 series? The short answer is a disappointing no. Even with the addition of vertex shader units and much higher clocked core, the GeForce 7600GT SLI behave in a similar way to the GeForce 6600 SLI and 7800GTX SLI. With a hit-or-miss proposition on performance and a surpassed quality offering, the only advantage SLI has at the moment for users is ease of installation.
