VolariGamers has the first info on XGI's Volari 8300 (XG47) and Volari 8600 (XG45). The Volari 8600 will support native PCIE and Shader Model 3.0, whereas the Volari 8300 is an entry level PCIE card with Shader Model 2.0 support. In addition, XGI has implemented video playback enhancements such as 3:2 pull-down, HDTV output and Smooth Edge, which are similar to nVidia's PureVideo.

Its been a long time coming but ATI have finally answered the call of Nvidia's SLI with the release of their dual card technology codenamed "Crossfire". Right now we dont have a suitable test rig to bring you figures or results but rest assured when samples are made available we will be bringing you the full rundown. For now Ill go over the information presented to me at a recent meeting and how you should expect Crossfire to improve your gaming experience. At the end of the article ill include an ATI Q&A session which will answer a good selection of questions and act as a reference.

Today marked the start of Computex, the world's largest Information Technology trade show. We had the opportunity to exclusively test DFI's Crossfire motherboard as well as take a closer look at the Pentium 4 and AMD Crossfire offerings from ECS. Both Cooler Master and Thermaltake introduced new case designs, and AMD showed off it's Formula 1 racing car.

After our initial testing this morning we managed to perform some further tests. Specifically, we were able to benchmark a Crossfire system using an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ processor and two Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition graphics cards. These results were particularly interesting, because our initial testing this morning was conducted using two X850XTs (non-PE version).

VIA launches low power C7 processor

VIA today launched the VIA C7 processor, a new competitor to Intel's popular mobile Pentium M processor. The C7 is based on the Esther core, it VIA claims it is the world's smallest, lowest power and most secure native x86 processor. The VIA C7 is produced on a 90nm SOI process from IBM and the 2.0GHz version uses only 20W at peak levels while idle power consumption is as low as 0.1W.

Siemens posted a press photo on its web site's media area showing the "Remote Expert Center for Power Plants in Karlsruhe, Germany." The purpose was to brag aout how these experts "use state-of-the-art communications to monitor, maintain and optimize a large number of machines and facilities." I say: Forget the communications -- look at that friggin' monitor! I want one.
