TXGF's ATI Ultimate LAN Party @ TechReport

Published by Newsfactory 0

This weekend in Dallas, I attended the Texas Gaming Festival's ATI Ultimate LAN Party, a nice-sized event attended by around 500 people. The party featured the usual mix of LAN gaming, tourneys, and sleep deprivation, but it was unique for a few reasons. ATI, the event's title sponsor, saw to that. First, they showed off what they claimed was the world's first 512MB graphics card, a Radeon X850 XT with twice the RAM of the usual variety.

The SLI Technology and its Scalablility

Published by Newsfactory 0

Ok, everyone is talking about SLI and its advantages... one of which is the scalability of the new technology. To be able to buy one SLI capable videocard now and then add a second one later on (when you've got enough money to buy another one), thus "doubling" your performance is one of the nice features offered by the SLI technology. However there is one big question: How well is the scalability implemented? Everyone is talking how good it is, but they are missing the key points.

Less is More? Part One - NVIDIA's TurboCache

Published by Newsfactory 0

It isn't very often you start hearing buzzwords about low-end products from ATI and NVIDIA, but 2005 seems to be the exception to that rule. Today I've taken the first in a two part look at what the fuss is all about, by exploring the thinking behind NVIDIA's TurboCache technology. In part two, I'll be examining ATI's competing HyperMemory technology upon its official launch.

AMD K8 E4 Stepping: SSE3 Performance @ AnandTech

Published by Newsfactory 0

The goal of this article is to bring out a quick look at what SSE3 brings to the table for Opteron and the future revision E Athlon 64 cores. As desktop parts do not enable coherent HT links at all, the 1GHz support won't matter. Also, the newer A64 parts are already 90nm on organic packages. Other than the usual small tweaks we see between steppings, the only thing that will be new across the board for K8 processors is SSE3.
