UT2003 Demo Review

Published by Newsfactory 1

DarkVision has posted a big review on their site of the UT2003 Demo :

The UT2003 demo was in interesting subject to review this extensively. With all of the pre-release hype about the game I (and many others) has many expectations as well as trepidations about this demo. Some of the previously shown stuff made it look like things were going in the EXACT direction many of us were hoping the game would go. Other things made it look as if some stuff was being taken either too far, or, in another direction than what players would expect. But, then again, this is the same sort of thing that happens with ANY follow-up/sequal type of game!

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven Review

Published by Newsfactory 0

Just got word that Gamesdomain.co.uk have posted their Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven Review! Here's a snip.

Mafia's missions range wildly from protection money collection (which of course, never quite goes right...), carjacking, vandalism, and assassination. It's safe to say that if it's variety you're looking for, look no further, so long as you?re happy stepping heavily on the wrong side of the law. Rather than GTA3's more arcadey action segments, Mafia is more like a traditional third-person shooter - think Hitman, and you're nearly there.

Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo Tweak Guide

Published by Newsfactory 0

As it's a slow news day! Here's another Unreal Tournament 2003 demo tweak guide this time from TechSpot.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the PC sequel to Digital Extremes & Epic Games massively successful Unreal Tournament. After a few months of delay, the demo of this already popular multiplayer shoot ?em up has now been released, hopefully with many improvements over what we could have got around July when it was first supposed to come out. As expected with this new FPS release we are also getting a completely revamped graphics engine; fast paced action combat combined with superb animations will require a fast machine so you will want to make sure everything is fine tuned for best visuals and improved 3D audio with a minimum performance loss.

What Is Wrong With UT2003 Benchmark?

Published by Newsfactory 0

Just saw this @ G256.com:

UT2003 seems to have some kind of coding problem. The benchmark numbers do not add up. UT was a CPU dependant game, and Quake3 was a graphics card dependant game. UT2003 seems dependant on everything: RAM, Video, and CPU. But, it's framerate results are highly inconsistant. One thing I know is, Mark Rein is no John Carmack. I think the EPIC boys are pushing the limits of what they can handle.Take a look at this mess of benchmarks run on multiple cards. It makes absolutely no sense that at 1024x768x32 a GeForce3 TI-500 and a GeForce4 4600 get identical benchmark results.

The Y-Project Preview

Published by Newsfactory 0

The peeps over @ PC.IGN.com have posted a Preview for Westka Interactive's upcoming Unreal engine powered - first person shooter/RPG!

As the game is built on the Unreal Warfare engine, we were privy to seeing full rag doll effects in the demo, with bodies contorting and limbs flailing as they crumpled to the ground. This was especially impressive with insectoids as you had more limbs flying around than you could shake a fly swatter at. In addition to the rag doll effects on the characters and creatures, there will be realistic physics on the objects in the game as well. We shot a few canisters and moved them around the cavernous environments just to test out the physics.
