Ground Control II: Operation Exodus Multiplayer Demo

Massive Entertainment has released a new multiplayer demo of Ground Control II: Operation Exodus, renewing the opportunity to try out their imminent sci-fi 3D real-time strategy game. This demo supersedes the previous single-player demo as it contains the same two tutorials and "Smells Like Victory" campaign mission, but it has now been expanded with three online multiplayer maps that require creating an account on their MassGate network.

Quake III Gets Real Time Ray-Tracing Treatment

Slashdot reports that did you ever wonder what you could do with a cluster of 20 AMD XP 1800s? Some German students and videogame fans did, and their answer has been what they call 'ray-tracing egoshooters', an entirely raytraced game engine which 'runs about 20 fps@36 GHz in 512x512 with 4xFSAA'. The first game to get this treatment is Quake 3 Arena : the screenshots look slightly better than the original 3D engine but the video (56 Mb, 3'19) is quite dramatic.

Starsiege: TRIBES Free Retail Game

Sierra has now released an unrestricted version of the free Starsiege: TRIBES retail game as a promotion for the upcoming Tribes Vengeance installment in the multiplayer first-person shooter series originally created by Dynamix. This distribution includes version 1.8 of the full game along with the retail patch to upgrade it to version 1.11.

Game Cam allows the recording of real-time in game movies with sound via hot keys or an easy to use in game interface. Game Cam was designed to work with most DirectX 7, 8, 9 and OpenGL games.

We just released Game Cam v1.1 Final. This release corrects every issue we were notified about through email and our forums. This will be the last major release for this version. 3D Gamers reports that in a blast from the past, a playable demo of Grand Prix Legends 2004 is now available, courtesy of Blackhole Motorsports. GPL 2004 is a community project to bring the venerable Grand Prix 1967 racing simulation released by Papyrus in 1998 into the new millennium, and while this demo contains the same Watkins Glen track as before, it has been upgraded with the official patches, modern graphics, car models and other modifications.

Raven Software is looking for a Technical Artist for the Quake 4 PC title. We prefer a person with a strong understanding of the technical side of creating art assets, such as creating textures and world models, generating shaders, and proficient in scripting. We also prefer a candidate with strong drawing and painting skills and an ability to model hi and lo-poly models in Maya and/or Lightwave. Programming experience is a plus. A background with Quake 3 shaders, a familiarity with the Quake 3 Editor, and experience in animation and effects are also a definite plus, but not required.
