These are modified/hacked ATI Catalyst drivers. The drivers have been optimized with two things in mind, better Image Quality and more/stable frames per second when compared to the official Catalyst drivers from ATI.
Just got word from Visionary over at VR-Zone that he's thrown up their Forceware 56.55 driver comparsion against Forceware driver 53.03 and using the following benchmarks 3DMark2001SE, UT2003, UT2004, SplinterCell , Quake III , Pixel Shader 2.0 test and Aquamark 3.
The Firing Squad have thrown up their Catalyst 4.2 Driver Report!
They tested Catalyst 4.1 against the newly released Catalyst 4.2 using the following Radeon cards 9800 XT , 9800 Pro 128 MB, 9700 Pro, 9600 Pro, 9500 Pro, 9500, 8500 and using the following benchmarks NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, Quake III: Arena version 1.32, Unreal Tournament 2003, IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles, Splinter Cell and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
Our bro's over at Link-empire.com send news that they've snagged a new sets of Forceware Drivers in the shape of 56.55 for Windows 2000/XP from Gainwards FTP and they are dated 01/29/2004! All Nvidia card supported.

DriverHeaven have thrown up their Catalyst 4.1 Driver Round Up!

Fudo over at The Inquirer is reporting that Nvidia will sooon be releasing Detonator 55 aka Forceware 2.0! as you all know it's been a bit quite on Detonator front as nvidia gears up for the release of their new NV40, NV41 and NV45 chipsets and the driver team have been busy making sure this set rocks with those chipsets as a few jobs rest on the launch! I bet The Inquirer don't have a set? Hehe
