I have a plextor 40/12/40A - ive had it for a while now, but recently ive noticed that it doesnt burn at 40x - its burning at 16x.

So far ive tried the following:
Latest Nero,
CloneCD,
Alcohol 120%,
Latest Plextor Firmware,
Latest Plextor Tools,
Checked and rechecked my cdrs (to make sure they are atleast 32x),
Had a look around the registery.

I did read on another forum about some reg tweaking for nero, but i cant find that post anymore

This is kinda frustrating to say the least, its just the fact that i have 40x but it will only go at 16x. As a last resort i will probably end up emailing plextor.com about this as they have no user based forums that i can see.

So any help or light that can be shed on this matter would be greatly appericated. ta

Short.

* Update your firmware
* Check maximum supported recording speed on your CD-R
* Use an up-2-date burning application (NERO)

With Plextor you must always make sure you have the
latest firmware. Also always keep updating your cdrw software (nero,
clone cd etc)

Finally check if the rest of your system isn't slowing it down, for example
a bad hd or really crappy ram.

Try the above ones.

Also check the quality of the media (CD-R blanks) some discs work better with some drives, but not well with others
