Google Hangs Up on Mobile Phone Idea

The technology press has been filled lately with increasingly feverish rumors and even photos of a possible Google-built mobile phone. Separate statements by two Google executives, however, suggest that the search giant has no plans to become a phone manufacturer.
According to The Australian Financial Review, Richard Kimber, Google's South-East Asia managing director of sales and operations, told attendees at the Search Engine Room conference in Sydney that the company is currently focused on mobile applications and not hardware. He added that Google is very interested in finding ways to bring its search technology and other applications to all mobile devices. Yahoo has more.
