WinSetView 3.1.5 released

Published by

WinSetView version 3.1.5 has been released, offering users the ability to globally configure folder views in Windows Explorer. This tool enables the selection of a Details View with customized column headings that will be applied uniformly across all folders. The operation of WinSetView is intuitive, although it is recommended to close all open applications prior to use, as this can ensure that any changes to open/save dialog views are applied correctly.

All modifications made using WinSetView affect only the current user and are saved in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER section of the Windows registry. Importantly, the tool does not change system-wide settings, and it does not require administrative privileges to function. Each time WinSetView is used, it automatically creates a unique backup of the modified registry values, providing a restore option to revert to previous setups if necessary. Additionally, users have the option to reset all Explorer views to their default Windows settings.

To use WinSetView, simply double-click the WinSetView.exe file to launch the graphical user interface (GUI). After making your selections, clicking the submit button will trigger the application to pass your choices through an INI file to WinSetView.ps1, which implements the changes and restarts the Explorer interface.

The software also provides helpful tips, including how to show hidden files and folders, manage file extensions in the context menu, add a details pane to the File Explorer context menu, and offers an extensive list of keyboard shortcuts for File Explorer.

Extension: WinSetView is particularly beneficial for users who frequently manage large numbers of files and folders, as it streamlines the viewing experience by enabling consistent display settings. This can enhance productivity by minimizing the time spent adjusting folder views manually. Future updates could potentially include features such as the ability to save multiple view configurations and switch between them easily or even share settings between different user accounts on the same machine. Additionally, incorporating user feedback mechanisms could lead to improvements in usability and functionality, ensuring that WinSetView continues to meet the evolving needs of its users
