VUPlayer is a lightweight, Open Source audio player with numerous playlist and appearance settings.

The interface is a nice looking white with black fonts and blue icons and highlighting. Most of your settings are laid out in four tabs that include File, View, Control, and Help. Most common actions are available as icons across the top of the app. For example, you can add, remove or modify playlists as well as control whatever you're currently playing. Online documentation is available.

It's easy to add files or folders to a playlist much like iTunes or other audio players. Playlists can be imported or exported in M3U or PLS formats. By default when you play any song, it will continue to play in order. We heard a couple of skips. However, testing in VMware can sometimes cause issues that you might not see outside of a virtual machine.

VUPlayer has a toolbar that features Seek Control, Progress Counter, Various Button Controls, Volume Control, and more.

While playing music, VUPlayer only used around 22MB of memory and often less than 1% of CPU. Impressive for an app that's under 5MB. VUPlayer has an uphill battle of being an audio player of choice, but it uses minimal resources, and it is immediately easy to use. Portable versions are available at the homepage.
