PeaZip 10.6.0 released

Published by

PeaZip has announced the release of version 10.6.0, which brings significant enhancements to its file and archive browsing capabilities. One of the key features introduced is a dynamic virtual mode that optimizes performance when handling large quantities of files or archives simultaneously. Additionally, the latest version enhances archive pre-parsing, streamlines the process of hiding hidden files, and integrates a new search function within the Settings menu.

For users on non-Windows platforms, PeaZip 10.6.0 now supports automatic location of the RAR binary (if available) and allows for the use of alternative 7z forks. This includes support for additional codecs such as Brotli, Lizard, LZ4, LZ5, and Zstd for the .7z format. The application has also been updated to incorporate the latest versions of various backends, including 7z 25.01, Pea 1.26, and Zpaqfranz, which replaces the previous Zpaq while maintaining full compatibility.

The sources for PeaZip have been compiled with Lazarus 4.2, ensuring compatibility with earlier versions 3.x and 2.x. Notably, the Windows packages have been repacked using Zpaqfranz 62.5 to address false positives encountered by some antivirus programs; the SHA256.txt file has been updated accordingly.

The improvements in speed, particularly when displaying the contents of large archives, have been attributed to optimizations made in both the 10.5 and 10.6 releases. Benchmarks indicate enhanced performance with archives containing 25,000 and 250,000 items, as well as those with 25,000 items in a single directory.

In summary, PeaZip 10.6.0 not only enhances the user experience through performance upgrades and new features but also ensures compatibility and functionality across various platforms. As users continue to manage increasingly large volumes of data, these advancements position PeaZip as a robust tool for file and archive management.
