How to Setup Windows 95/98/Me on a Windows 2000/XP System

Published by Newsfactory 0

Bitbenderforums.com have posted a new guide for all you Peeps that are looking to set-up a dual boot system! Here's a snip.

I love Windows XP. Best version they've come up with yet, in my opinion. It makes setup of new computers and networks a breeze. But, it does have a few problems running some older programs that can't be solved by running them in compatibility mode. I did a quick search of Google, but was unable to find a definitive list of programs that have known compatibility issues. I did find 2, both utilities - PowerQuest's "Partition Magic 6.0" and Norton's "SystemWorks 2001". The program that I couldn't get to run in XP was "Easy CD Creator 4.0". The solution for me was to either buy upgraded software, or using the tools I had on hand, create another partition on my hard drive and install Windows 98 on that, in order to run the older programs. Not wanting to spend money to upgrade software that had worked well for me before, and having plenty of hard drive space, I chose the second option.

AGP 3.0 Explained

Published by Newsfactory 0

Planet3DNow.de have posted an in-depth guide that takes a look at the AGP 3.0 specifications! Here's a snip.

AGP 3.0 is the third generation of accelerated graphics for the Intel-compatible computers and will be officially introduced on 11/12/02. In contrast to AGP 2.0 the AGP 3.0 specification isn't just a derivation of an existing standard. AGP 3.0 is incompatible to AGP 2.0 ? in theory. However, compatibility can be forced by implementing the "Universal AGP 3.0 Motherboard" standard. Another major difference is, that most of the specification's enhancements are quite irrelevant for the gaming community, whereas the professionals will be truly grateful. Intel states in its specification, that most of the enhancements are specifically for workstations and professional users. The following table shows a brief summary covering the existing AGP modes:

To Dual Or Not To Dual

Published by Newsfactory 0

Bitbender have posted a new guide which takes a look @ dual processor mainboards. Here's a snip.

This has been one topic that has plagued me since the development of the AMD dual athlon machine. An inexpensive (compared to Xeon) dual setup seems powerful on paper to us consumers, but what is it worth to an everyday person. What I have done in this review is to try and see what is it really worth upgrading to the latest and greatest. I have chosen 3 boards that would be great examples. The first is my tried and true Iwill KK266 Plus. When I got this board, it was the latest and greatest, using the Via Apollo KT133A chipset. I did the tests with both a 1.3thunderbird and a 2000 xp, for not everyone would run out and get an XP, but most got a 1.3 when they picked up this good board. The next board is the MSI K7T266 Pro2 with a 2000 xp. It has the Via Kt266a chipset, which in my opinion was a great step up While I was shopping for a new board, I was surprised at the number of people that mentioned this board, and now after owning it I can see why. I found that this board is one of my favorites. The last board is the MSI K7D Master L with dual 2000 MP.
