ID's upcoming DOOM III engine promises to introduce some new advances in ease-of-use and long-term mod friendliness. DOOM III's level editor will be built into the game. This will allow for complex processing in real-time, like modifying light maps within the engine without having to back out and recompile code. During the keynote address at this year's QuakeCon, John Carmack hinted that content created for DOOM III will be able to carry over to the next generation of technology.

Game studio Bioware has released the latest update installment for their critically acclaimed 3D roleplaying game Neverwinter Nights based on the 3rd edition of AD&D rules. The patch file is available for English, German, French, Italian and Spanish editions of the game. The patch adds new game features, some campaign fixes, a Plot Wizard for the Aurora Toolset, Hak Pak Editor updates and some bug fixes. Automatic updating is recommended. A playable demo for MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries has been released, offering the opportunity to experience this recent 3D 'Mech action game by Cyberlore and FASA Studios. The demo sports 2 Halloran missions, 1 Solaris mission (set in the jungle), 2 multiplayer maps and four mechs (Cougar, Owens, HellHound, Uziel and Hellspawn).

After 3 long months of development, ProMod 3.0 has finally been released! ProMod 3.0 is the first class based mod for Jedi Outcast.
