Stronghold Virus Alert Is Fake!

Published by

It seems that the newest Stronghold v1.1 patch is infected with the Nimda Virus! This was reported by the publisher Take2 Interactice (In German).

But RivaStation have the lastest news on this information on the Stronghold patch are that it contains no virus!! It seems that Norton Anti Virus reports a virus in the newest version of "Install Shield" without a reason. It´s a false alert. Stronghold is not the only game which is affected by this. NAV also alerts with the Ghost Recon demo.

Here´s a comment from Firefly Studios (Stronghold):

we have been working on this for the last 24 hours and we finally now know for sure (having just spoken to Symantec) that this is not a virus but is false reporting by Norton Antivirus.

The problem arises with a recent version of InstallShield (6.31 kernel file), which Norton then reports (falsely) as a Nimda variant. Any product then using this latest version of Installshield will encounter this false alarm. (Myth3 will have the same problem) Symantec are releasing updated definitions this afternoon to fix the problem.

We run and rigorously maintain Norton Corporate Anti virus. The reason that we did not spot the problem here is that the problem causing definitions came out on the 9th, the day after we released the patch.
