The Pentium-M 780's clock speed of 2.26 GHz is the highest shipping clock speed of this product line yet, although it is not what most would consider a major jump forward. At 2.26 GHz, the chip is only clocked 6.2% higher compared to the previous high-end Pentium-M processor (770 at 2.13 GHz). Many enthusiasts have found that current Pentium-M processors can easily clock up to 2.5 GHz levels and higher with stock cooling solutions, so Intel seems to be playing it fairly safe at 2.26 GHz.
Other features of the Dothan core architecture remain un-touched. The chip still has 64 kB of L1 cache, 2,048 kB (2 MB) of L2 cache, and supports SSE, SSE-2, and NX-bit technologies. Despite Intel's major initiative to move towards dual-core, 64-bit processing, this brand new Intel chip still does not support EM64T (64-bit) technologies, nor does it support dual-core technologies. However, Intel has stated that their next generation Pentium-M (codenamed Yonah) will indeed support dual-core, but has been dodgy when it comes to an answer regarding the chip's 64-bit abilities.
