Doom III Interview

GameAxis has thrown up their Doom III Exclusive Interview with id's Tim Willits and Todd Hollenshead on id Software's upcoming first person shooter Doom III, which includes a few details about Quake 4! Here's a snip.

We were lucky enough to be treated to the Doom 3 demo TWICE. After our first interview session of the day, we made our way to a small darkened room in the corner of the corridor. The wall-sized banner that spelt ?Doom III? greeted me as I was introduced to Tim Willits and Todd Hollenshead. Of course, when we found out that we were going to watch the demo on a 42? plasma screen, our adrenaline got the ol' heart pumping. We grabbed a couple of mints for fear of feeling majorly nauseated halfway into the demo.

Tim started the game off in a room within the administration block. The first encounter was of a zombie that was easily disposed off by the trusted shotgun. Here, Tim showed that the zombies were actually made with ?rag doll? features. So the bodies were fully interactive, you could blow parts out of their limbs and they would shift, move and flop according to the law of physics. Todd pointed out the dynamic lighting features and the impressive shadowing that the new graphic engine enables. He also pointed out that the team envisioned gamers playing the game alone; in a room, with lights turned off; and by the end of it, they wanted the player to be too afraid of getting out of their chair to turn the lights on for fear of what they might see.
