WinFF is an entirely free video converter to convert your videos to almost a dozen other formats.WinFF is very easy to use and well laid out. From the top, you can use the buttons to add, remove, clear, play, preview, and convert. Select Add or just drag and drop your video into the app.Once your video is loaded, you only need to choose two settings. The first is the convert to type. Your choices include Android, Audio, AVI, DV, DVD, iPod-iTunes, MPEG-4, PS3, Windows (WMV), and Xbox. Each of these has a preset you can then select from. The presets typically have to do with how it can be displayed, for example, widescreen, full screen, 1080p, 720p, iPod small, iPod wide screen and so on. Optionally, you can finally change the output folder which is Documents by default. For our tests, we randomly selected convert to AVI and XviD full screen.Easy to miss in the top right corner is the Options button. Clicking that opens up five neat tabs that allow you to tweak the video before converting. These include Video, Audio, Crop, Time and FFmpeg settings. There are numerous settings here to rotate, set the frame rate and size, audio bitrate and channels, crop, time to record, and more, again, depending on your chosen output type. Click Options again to hide these additional tabs. You can preview the video before you convert it which will give a preview of the changes in a command prompt depending on your output type. Typing Q aborts the preview and ? for help. Finally, pressing convert will bring up the command prompt, and you just wait it out. We loaded a 65MB MP4 video and converted it to AVI. WinFF took roughly 6 minutes and reduced the size to 18.2MB. You can open the output folder when completed or use Explorer to navigate to your converted video.WinFF is entirely free and been under development for some years now. 1.55 is probably the latest version. It's easy enough to use for inexperienced people and has enough additional settings for the more advanced user. It's free, does what it says and has no sales pitches, upgrades or tricks. It simply converts your videos for free.
