Windows XP SP2 build 2082 Express Install

Posted by Newsfactory, 02/24/2004 04:35 AM 9 comment(s)

GeekNewz reports that the latest winxp sp2 build has been released out of redmond. As usual testers can go to windowsbeta to download. At the moment its only the express but they promise to release the full 342mb a bit later probably tomorrow.

This exclusive release is from GeekNewz, before you download and install we want to warn everyone that isnt a beta tester that these are early beta releases that are not for the end user so you can expect bugs. If you want a stable system then we highly recommend that you do not install this released on your desktop.

You can make the EXPRESS install the full NETWORK install by doing this -

1.) Extract the express.exe file into a folder
2.) Go to Update folder and run Update.exe
3.) Once installation finishes downloading all files and states BACKING UP FILES
4.) Select all contents of folder and copy to another folder while it's backing up
5.) The copy will finish before the BACKUP finishes
6.) Now you have a full NETWORK install of SP2 2082 within the folder you copied it to and you can burn this to CD for Re-installation over and over again
7.) Last but not least WAIT UNTIL THE REAL XP SP2 is released 2-3 months from now...

I also will say they've changed everything from the other SP2 to this one - A BIG DIFFERENCE - SP2 for DUMMIES... LOL

Damn, I got no mail from M$ about this. Well no matter, I'm downloading the standalone installer from Windowsbeta.

OR, you could follow steps 1 through 2 and when it says "backing up files" press Cancel. When the dialog box appears saying SP2 was cancelled, press OK and you have the whole SP2 installation folder (578 MB)!!!

Yeah, I got no email either, no worried though, grabbed it from BetaPlace, liking it very much so far, the final should be pretty good indeed

The only gripe I have with this is that it breaks StyleXP. Strange????

What I'd like to know is if there is already a way to slipstream it. ;)
