The New GeForce FX 5600 Ultra

HardOCP have thrown up their review of Nvidia's upgraded GeForceFX 5600 Ultra video card, apparently a real replacement for the mainstream performance sector, the new FX chip is higher clocked, cooler and overclockable.

The NV31 core is based off of the technology of the NV30 GPU. That means it fully supports every 3D feature present on the NV30. You will find the CineFX engine bringing with it support for Floating Point 128bit Internal Precision along with DirectX 9 level shader support of Pixel and Vertex Shader 2.0.

Intellisample Technology is also included giving us the same Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic features and quality of the NV30. It also uses a 400Mhz RAMDAC for its 2D output. The GPU itself is based on the .13 micron technology of NV30 and NV35. To reduce cost and reduce the speed needed for this video card DDR-I is utilized instead of the expensive DDR-II. The memory bus width is 128-bits wide. What is most interesting about the core architecture of the NV31 is that it has been reduced to 4 pixel pipelines compared to the 8 pixel pipelines of the NV30.
